Bedbug or bed bug? No matter how you spell it, the fact is that these blood-sucking critters can make your life miserable and quickly become a major problem! So, the key is to act fast. These small reddish-brown insects can’t fly and are about the size of an apple seed.<\/p>

Bed Bugs Get Rid of The Mess<\/h2>

The first thing that we recommend is to call a professional pest control company. These people know their job and can help you get rid of these bugs before they take over the house. Keep in mind, there are many kinds of bug foggers and foaming mattress sprays on the market. Nevertheless, if you’re afraid of the chemicals then call the experts.\u00a0<\/p>

Second, take care of the laundry in an orderly fashion. If your laundry room is on the other side of the house, or you need to go to the laundromat, you don’t want to spread the bugs along the way. Sort the laundry into small loads, and gently place each load into a large sealable plastic bag<\/a>.<\/p>

Leave the bags outside until you are ready to wash them, and then carefully empty each bag into the washer. Quickly add the chemicals, shut the door, and dispose of the bag outside the laundromat or home. Wash the laundry on a long, hot water cycle (Temps of 118 will kill the bug and 125 can kill the eggs). Do 2 or 3 rinses to make sure your laundry is truly bug-free. Try adding a sanitizer cleaning agent such as Lysol Laundry Sanitizer<\/a> to assist with the kill.\u00a0<\/p>

Finally, dry your laundry on high heat to ensure that those bad bugs are gone once and for all. As a courtesy to the laundromat, you may want to tell the attendant that your laundry has bed bugs so they can be proactive in spraying for them.\u00a0<\/p>

Ways to Avoid Getting Bed Bugs<\/h2>

No matter how clean you are \u2014 if you travel or use a laundromat\u2014 you risk picking up those ugly critters. To avoid getting bed bugs when traveling, keep your clean laundry in your suitcase, and your suitcase up, off the floor, and on a hard, clean surface.\u00a0<\/p>

Also, place your dirty laundry into a sealed plastic bag, and keep it up off the floor too. Remember, never leave your clothes lying around or on the floor.\u00a0<\/p>

After you leave the hotel\/motel, leave your luggage outside of your home until you’ve run a steamer over the entire thing, and then wash your laundry using the steps listed above.<\/p>

At home, wash your bedding every week or more frequently. Routinely clean your mattress with a steamer, and if you are particularly nervous, there are mattress bags<\/a> to protect your mattress from bed bugs.\u00a0<\/p>
