Cleaning New Items Before Wearing Them

Before you wear new clothing, it is always a good idea to launder them first, whether you are doing the laundry at home or at a Laundromat like our Laundromat Reading, PA location.
There are lots of reasons why you want to consider washing those new clothes before you wear them. First and perhaps the most important reason is because they could be laden with bacteria. There was actually a study conducted that showed many new clothing items were full of microbes.

While the new clothing looks wonderful at the stores we shop at, what we often forget about is that many times people try on the clothing prior to someone purchasing the item. Some of the people trying on the clothes may have bad hygiene. In fact, many times clothing that has been returned to a store for whatever reason, simply ends up back on the shelf.

While most of the potential microbes found on clothing are not likely to be harmful, it is really unpleasant to think of being exposed to them. In some cases, though, staph bacteria can live on materials like cotton for several months.

You can certainly put all these concerns to rest by making it a point to launder the new clothes prior to wearing them.

Another reason you want to do this is because most new clothes contain a variety of chemicals that are there for different reasons. In some cases, it is to prevent mould and bacteria when they are being shipped in from far away places. In other cases, it is to prevent the clothes from excessively wrinkling during their transportation. For some, these chemicals can be irritating to the skin or create allergies.

Laundering your new clothes before wearing them is not going to be detrimental to them. If you follow sound laundry practices like using the right water temperature, laundry detergent, and settings, your new items are going to retain their new look and feel without all the detrimental side effects that can be evident if you don’t wash them.

Fortunately, by making use of your local Laundromat this is an easy task that won’t take you much time, and you will soon be wearing those new clothing items.
